On July 3, 2026, VETAssIst was presented at the 10th Austrian Vocational Education Research Conference (BBFK) in Innsbruck by Dr. Vivian Harberts, as part of a thematic forum hosted by our German partner institution, the Institute Technology and Education (ITB) at the University of Bremen: “VET staff and artificial intelligence (AI): accepting or shaping a new teaching and learning culture?”
The presentation covered the project’s three research questions: why VET teachers still hesitate to use AI (RQ1), which applications would interest them despite that hesitation (RQ2), and whether a purpose-built asynchronous e-learning course increases teachers’ willingness to engage with AI (RQ3). It also introduced the structure of the resulting e-learning course, now in its pilot phase, along with first feedback from participating teachers. The forum also included related work from Dr. Christine Siemer (AI Pioneers project) and Dr. Melanie Schall (feasibility study on AI-supported learning pathways for company-based training staff).
Across all three contributions, the discussion centered on one question: how can a new teaching and learning culture involving AI be actively shaped, rather than simply accepted?
